Culinary Conference

Castleberry High School’s Senior Culinary Students recently had an extremely exciting and relevant experience at the first annual Fort Worth Area Culinary Career Conference.  This informative and dynamic conference was hosted by the Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation at the beautiful Will Rogers Longhorn Inn at the Fort Worth Exposition grounds in the Fort Worth art & museum district.  The FWFWF gathered the foodie community’s brightest stars to help students explore his/her options within culinary careers.  Students also had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills as well as increase their chances for culinary career success.  Students and instructors from all over North Texas enjoyed this unique opportunity to learn about the industry from the people who know it best.

Culinary instructor Wendy Ivey, and her 10 advanced culinary arts students, attended a keynote address from Lanny Lancarte.  Mr. Lancarte is a chef, restaurateur, entrepreneur, culinary visionary, and Fort Worth native.  Additionally, students were able to rotate through five professional panels hosted by 3-4 top local experts on each of the following topics.  The areas included, 1) Sweet Dreams, Small Businesses, 2) Fort Worth Trends – Past, Present + Future, 3) Outside the Line, 4) Motor to Mortar, and 5) Apply Yourself (College/Texas Workforce planning).  Students heard first hand from industry leaders about the pros and cons of life in the food and/or hospitality world.  College & Career Specialist Tasha Sheehan stated, “The very best way for a student to authentically explore, learn about and ultimate decide upon a career is to talk to and/or shadow someone living and working that occupation/career on a daily basis.  This helps students to weigh all aspects when making an informed decision about his/her future.  This event was a fabulous opportunity for hands-on rigorous and highly relevant learning.”  We would like to thank the Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation for bringing together over 25 leaders within the Fort Worth Culinary Community to share their vast knowledge and expertise with our students!  This was a great day of learning for our CHS Lions!
